Simple, honest, and full of flavor. Our sardines are ready to eat straight from the tin, but they also shine in quick recipes that bring out their character. Here are a few ideas to get you started. No chef skills required. 

Ginger Sardine Rice Bowl

serves 1 to 2

  • 1 can of Iconic Sardines with Ginger 
  • 1 cup cooked jasmine or basmati rice (warm or at room temperature) 
  • ½ avocado, sliced 
  • 1 small cucumber, thinly sliced 
  • A few fresh coriander leaves (optional) 
  • A drizzle of soy sauce or lemon juice 
  • Sesame seeds (optional) 
  1. Toast the bread until golden and crispy. 
  2. (Optional) Rub one side of each slice with a cut garlic clove for extra depth. 
  3. Arrange a few fresh leaves of arugula or spinach on the toast. 
  4. Place the sardines gently over the greens. Use the lemon-infused oil from the can to drizzle over the top. 
  5. Finish with a little lemon zest and freshly cracked black pepper. 

Serve as a quick snack, starter or light meal. The lemon brings brightness and cuts through the richness, making each bite clean and balanced. 

Lemon Sardine Toast

serves 1 to 2

  • 1 can of Iconic Sardines in Olive Oil with Lemon 
  • 2 slices of rustic sourdough or country bread 
  • 1 small garlic clove (optional) 
  • 1 handful of arugula or baby spinach 
  • Zest of ½ lemon (optional) 
  • Cracked black pepper, to taste 
  1. Toast the bread until golden and crispy.
